This is further complemented, however, with bulky brown gloves that further parallel the clothing colors on his legs. This has a similar level of effective color repetition with his earlier outfits, although with the white of his undershirt matching with his tights instead of brown sleeves matching with his boots. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, adult Link wears white tights with his green tunic, although the undershirt he wears is also white. Still, it’s an incredibly effective costume design that rightfully influenced all getups to follow. Link’s design shift into blonde hair in Link’s Awakening alleviates this somewhat - as does his pink-haired sprite in A Link to the Past, even if the artwork doesn’t reflect that - but it still feels like there’s something missing all the same. Link’s hair, brown in many Zelda designs initially, somewhat works well when contrasted with the yellow band of his hat, but it does result in a bit of too-much-brown in the design - although not nearly to the extent of his Zelda 2 outfit. Related: Why Link's Hair Is Pink In Zelda: A Link To The Past The green tunic and hat stand out as the iconic pieces they are, while the brown sleeves are far enough away from the matching brown boots that they add a sense of intentional repetition rather than feeling overbearing. Starting from the original Legend of Zelda and into A Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening (and the GameBoy Color re-release DX), this outfit features a pleasant balance between its blocks of color. The green tunic, brown undershirt, and no tights ensemble is Link’s most classic attire. It also serves a helpful purpose in-game: since one major feature of Tri Force Heroes is to dress up in many unique costumes, the Links’ hair serves to differentiate them rather than the tunics that they’ll inevitably change out of.

Although this makes their overall designs even more uniform, it’s a fun diversion from every Link’s usual Zelda series appearance. Even the green-clothed Link has distinctly green hair rather than his usual blonde. The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes doesn’t include the purple-clad Link, but the three Links who do appear have their own spin on the ensemble: their hair actually matches their clothes.

Their blonde hair, however, does manage to stand out more as a result.

The blue, red, and purple tunics are a refreshing change from the usual green, but they still fall into the same color monotony as their green counterpart, since their undershirts are simply a lighter shade than their tunics. In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, and even Spirit Tracks - some of Zelda’s underrated multiplayer games - additional Links appear in their own versions of the classic attire.
